NURSING ASSISTANT (NA) PROGRAM

The NA program has been fully approved and accredited by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services and by the Texas Workforce Commission, Career Schools and Colleges, Austin, Texas.  Both agencies regulate the NA program.

Program Description


The Nursing Assistant program is designed for students interested in becoming nursing assistant in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals and home care settings.  It covers Introduction to Long Term Care; Nursing Assistant’s role on the health care team. Students will develop beginning basic technical and personal care skills including monitoring body functions, restorative and rehabilitation techniques, therapeutic communication, infection control, safety and emergency procedures; identify resident rights, mental health and social service needs to facilitate an optimal level of functioning for the client recognizing individual, cultural and religious diversity, meets federal and state legal requirements for nursing assistant education and clinical practices.

Types of Classes

The CNA program with SIRA Career Training covers a course called Introduction to Long-Term Care; Nursing Assistant’s Role on the Health Care Team. Students will develop beginning basic technical and personal care skills including:

Therapeutic Communication
Infection Control
Safety and Emergency Procedures
Identify Resident Rights
         

Certified Nursing Assistant Recertification Program

The school offers 24 hour recertification program for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).  CNAs are required to do recertification program every 2 years.

Social Aspects of Care

Our course entitled, Mental Health & Social Service, addresses the need to facilitate an optimal level of functioning for the client recognizing individual, cultural, and religious diversity, which meets federal and state legal requirements for nursing assistant education and clinical practices.

The approximate time required to complete the Nursing Assistant Program is four weeks for the day program and four weeks for night program.  Three weeks of this will be spent at Sira Career Training doing lecture and lab work and one week will be spent at a Nursing skill and rehabilitation facility doing clinical practices. Clinical Externship will be three days of eight hours per day.


PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN PROGRAM

The Patient Care Technician program has been approved and regulated by the Texas Workforce Commission, Career Schools and Colleges, Austin, Texas. 

Program Description


The Patient Care Technician program prepares students for a variety of job opportunities such as Patient Care Technicians, Phlebotomy Technician and EKG Technician in the healthcare occupations areas and the program is generated to meet the need for cross training of employees in healthcare facilities.  Graduates may find employment in long-term care facilities, hospitals, laboratories, and clinics where basic side nursing skills are required, as well as the skills of phlebotomy, performing electrocardiograms (EKG), stress testing, and holter monitoring procedures.  The students will learn monitoring and recording vital signs: temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates; performing CPR and First Aid, performing basic lab work, insert and irrigate urinary retention and straight catheters on males and females, performing enteral tube feedings and irrigation, performing basic tracheotomy care, start intravenous infusions, assist with medication administration, recording patient condition and treatments.

PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN PROGRAM



The Phlebotomy technician program has been approved and regulated by the Texas Workforce Commission, Career Schools and Colleges, Austin, Texas.

Program Description

The goals of the Phlebotomy Technician program are to provide academic and clinical education for students to acquire the working knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for becoming a specialist in obtaining blood specimens by venipuncture and micro techniques, for the purpose of laboratory analysis.  A Phlebotomy Technician must have working knowledge of the healthcare system, the anatomy and physiology related to the laboratory testing and phlebotomy, the collection and transport requirements for tests performed in all areas of the laboratory, documentation and patient records, and interpersonal skills needed to provide quality patient care.

 

Phlebotomy Technicians find employment in hospitals, private physicians’ offices, blood banks and laboratories.
